GW Student Veteran Checklist (after being admitted to GW)

  Contact a VA counselor at 1-888-442-4551 to discuss your education benefits.

  Optional: if you are electing Post 9/11 GI Bills benefits and believe you are 100% eligible, please complete and submit the GW Request for Yellow Ribbon Program Form (available on the GW Student Veterans website).

  Complete the online GI Bill application at: http://www.gibill.va.gov/

  Fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) http://www.fafsa.ed.gov to see if you qualify for additional student aid. Check with the Office of Student Financial Assistance for aid eligibility.

  Once you have received the “Certificate of Eligibility” letter, submit it to the GW Certifying Officer at your campus or educational center.

  Register for courses.

  Complete the GW Request for Certification Form and return it to your GW Certifying Officer.

  Contact your GW Certifying Officer if there is a change in the total number of credit hours for which you are registered – this will affect your certification.

  Veteran education benefits are certified on a semester basis – be sure to complete the GW Request for Certification Form each semester.
